When the Sun came up, summer solstice morning, June 21, it rose in the FIRST degree of Cancer. As it shone and moved through the day, the first degree of Cancer moved across the sky with it. And when the sun set that evening, the first degree of Cancer set with it.

If the Moon would have been full that night, it would have been full at the first degree of Capricorn, exactly six signs - one half a circle away; exactly opposite the sun. At the FULL MOON, the Sun and Moon are 'in opposition' to one another.

At the NEW MOON, the Sun and Moon are 'paired' or conjunct. The moon is passing the sun, in the circle. This is a conjunction. [A 'blending' of energies, for good or bad - some energies blend better than others.]

The QUARTER MOONS each month, which look like half moons to us, are the two 'squares' of the sun and moon (each cycle). They are then, at 90 degree angles (aspects). The square aspect is considered negative and stressful. Shine two flashlight beams across one another, from 90 degree angles, and the beams will conflict and clash.

The 'opposition' (aspect) is also considered negative, but more as 'challenge',
which can actually spur us on.

The positive aspects of the zodiac circle, are when two bodies (sun, moon, etc) are at 60 degree or 120 degree ANGLES from one another. These angles are more triangle than square. They are the 'star' and the 'trine', more commonly called the 'sextile' and the 'trine'. There are two, of each of these - to the circle or revolution - like the squares (quarter moons).

If we were to draw a 'chart' of the circle the sun and moon (for instance) travel in, each month, while envisioning all the phases of the moon - drawing a line from the new moon to the full moon, and then a line connecting the two quarter moons [90 degrees] - we would draw an evenly sided cross ( + ).

Envision that cross upright and large, upon the horizon. Now draw an x (of shorter lines) exactly over its center. Turn the lines into rays of light, and you have the beautiful eight rayed, mystic star. [ + x ]

This eight-rayed Mystic Star, is THE diagram of the major aspects of astrology! All the planets [including the sun and moon] go through these aspects (angles - relationships, connections) to one another, each cycle [of the 360* CIRCLE].

The beginning of the cycle - the 'conjunction' (new) same sign;
the 'star' or sixty degree angle ( > ) 2 signs away (from each other);
the 'square' - ninety degree or quarter ( _| ) 3 signs away;
the 'trine' - one hundred and twenty degree angle ( _/ ) 4 signs away;
the 'opposition' - pole or full ( o--o ) 6 signs away;
